The ‘RF’, or ‘Retractable Fastback’, is a distinct variant of Mazda’s iconic MX-5 roadster.
And with the RF model, the MX-5’s traditional fabric convertible roof is replaced with a sliding hardtop, which retracts into the boot at the touch of a button.
The main benefit of the RF is that you can still enjoy all the thrills of open-top motoring without the need to clean and maintain a soft top, while you’ll also enjoy increased refinement in the cabin.

When the roof of the RF is retracted, the car’s ‘B’ pillars actually remain in place, helping you to feel secure and cosseted while behind the wheel, even with daylight above your head.
Meanwhile the luggage capacity of the RF is almost identical to that of its fabric-topped sibling, with the figure standing at 127 litres, so you don’t need to compromised on practicality
The rest of the winning MX-5 formula remains intact.
You can choose from two engines - a 1.5 litre petrol with power of 132 PS or a larger 2.0 litre unit with power of 184 PS.
Base ‘Prime-Line’ models feature 16 inch black alloys, cloth interior, and a sound system that includes two driver's headrest speakers.
Moving up through the two other trim levels - ‘Exclusive-Line’ and ‘Homura’ - unlocks extras such as a front strut brace, limited slip differential, sports suspension with Bilstein dampers, and a Nappa leather interior with heated seats.
All MX-5’s also come with what Mazda calls ‘Kinematic Posture Control’, or ‘KPC, which is designed to increase stability during cornering without impacting the ‘purity of the MX-5’s handling and driver engagement’.
As a rival to the Audi TT Roadster or the BMW Z4 Roadster, the Mazda MX-5 RF takes some beating, and it’s also the most affordable leasing option of that trio.
